Scholarship

In order to improve the quality of education, expand international influence, and encourage more outstanding international students to study in HITWH, various scholarships have been established for outstanding international students. The rules for implementation are as follows.

 

I. Scholarships

1. Admission Award  

To encourage self-funded international students who have outstanding HSK scores.

Amount:  

First-class: cover all the tuition fees

Second-class: cover 50% of tuition fees;

Third-class: cover 20% of tuition fees.

 

2. Scholarship for Outstanding International Students

This scholarship is only available to self-funded sophomore and junior international students who take classes in Chinese. The term of the scholarship is one year. The number of the award may change from year to year and will be publicized accordingly. The amount of the award is as follows:

Amount

First-class: 5,000 yuan /person/year;

Second-class: 2000 yuan /person/year;

Third-class: 1,000 yuan /person/year.

 

3. Outstanding Service Award

To encourage international students who have outstanding performance in student activities, who demonstrate strong organizational ability and enthusiasm.

Amount: 1000 yuan/person

 

4. HSK Award

To encourage language students and undergraduates who have taken the HSK test and achieved outstanding results.

Amount: 800 yuan/person.

 

5. Special Award from the President

To encourage international students who make outstanding achievements in science and technology competitions. The amount is decided according to specific circumstance.

 

Ⅱ. Eligibility

(1) Students applying for all scholarships (except Special award from the President) shall meet the following conditions:

1. International students who suspend their study or who are on exchange are not eligible for application.

2. Applicants shall abide by Chinese laws as well as rules and regulations of the University, shall register on time, achieve excellent academic results, and have no records on rules violation.

3. International students who fit into one of the following situations are not eligible for application:

(1) those who have violated laws and regulations;

(2) those who fail to obtain 1/4 of the total credits within one academic year;

(3) those who fail to pass all the courses within one academic year;

(4) those who are disciplined by the University for violating school rules;

(5) whose who ask for leave or be absent from class for more than 1/3 of the total credit hours of a semester;

(6) those who fail to pay tuition fees on time.

 

(2) Eligibility for each award:

1. Special award from the President

Applicants shall be self-funded undergraduate international students who are admitted to HITWH with a HSK5 score of no less than 180 and an outstanding performance in high school.

 

2. Scholarship for Outstanding International Students

1) Applicants shall abide by Chinese laws and regulations of HIT;

2) Applicants shall demonstrate moral integrity, get along well with fellow students and respect teachers;

3) Applicant shall have outstanding academic performance; applicants with high-level research achievements in the professional field are preferred;

4) Applicants shall actively participate in various activities organized by the University; applicants with outstanding performance are preferred;

5) Applicants who represent the University in various competitions and who have won awards are preferred.

Unless otherwise specified, the scholarships are awarded once a year. Students can apply for scholarship every year based on their performance of the previous academic year.

 

3. Outstanding Service Award

Applicants shall be active and responsible in their work and activities and are widely recognized by students and teachers;

Applicants shall actively encourage and guide other students to participate in activities, shall responsibly complete tasks assigned by teachers and shall serve as a bridge of communication between faculty, staff and students;

Applicants shall set an example by observing school rules and regulations, achieve outstanding results and have no bad records.

 

4. HSK Award

Language students or international undergraduate students (except those scheduled to graduate) who have obtained the HSK6 certificate will be awarded 800 yuan. Students can only apply once during their study at HITWH.

 

5. Outstanding performance award

International students who have made outstanding achievements in study, sports, literature and art or other aspects, who have participated in competitions at or above the provincial level and won special honors will be awarded by the University.

 

. Review principles and procedures

(i) The evaluation of each award shall be conducted in the principle of openness, fairness and impartiality and shall be conducted once a year in October.

(ii) The university shall establish a scholarship evaluation committee (hereinafter referred to as committee), whose members shall be composed of the staff and faculty of the international cooperation center and relevant departments.

(iii) Evaluation procedures: students who meet the application requirements shall submit the completed international student scholarship application form and relevant evaluation materials to their schools for preliminary examination.

The jury will review and evaluate the candidates according to the materials reported by the schools, determine who win the scholarship, and publicize the name list on University’s website.

After the publicity period, the name list will be officially announced.

(iv)These rules shall come into effect as of the date of promulgation and shall be interpreted by the international cooperation center.

 

 Supplementary Provisions

Students who have been awarded the Scholarship will be criticized, disqualified from the scholarships and the certificates of honor will be withdrawn, if they are found to have:  

1) violated Chinese laws as well as University rules and regulations during their study period;

2) failed to register at University on time without approval, leaving university for non-health reasons, or being absent from University without asking for a leave for more than two weeks;

3) failed 30% of the examinations and “pass-fail” examinations during the scholarship period;

4) failed to go up to the next grade;

5) suspended their studies for personal reasons.
